In 2022, First Nations Engineering Services Ltd. (FNESL) was engaged to provide Advisory Services to the Assembly of First Nations in collaboration with Indigenous Works and Indigenous Services Canada.
This work supports the development of the Closing the Infrastructure Gap by 2030: Budget 2023 Cost Report, an initiative led by Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to consolidate national infrastructure data and establish the funding required to eliminate the First Nations infrastructure gap by 2030.
The study examined infrastructure needs across a wide variety of categories, including:
- Housing
- Education
- Infrastructure
- Accessibility
- Connectivity
- Net-Zero Carbon
- Climate Adaptation
- All Season Roads
- Drinking Water Advisories
FNESL’s role includes technical document review, data validation, unit pricing development for capital infrastructure assets, and ongoing strategic advisory support to the Working Group. Through comprehensive QA/QC measures, detailed cost analysis, and clear reporting, FNESL provides objective, data-driven insight to help ensure the report accurately reflects infrastructure needs and supports effective advocacy on behalf of First Nations communities across Canada.
