Job Summary:Â
Â
Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Project Engineer shall also perform duties in conjunction with the President and General Manager to accurately and efficiently perform various technical activities related to the planning, design, construction and management of various design, study, and construction projects for First Nations Engineering Services Ltd. (FNESL). This position reports to the General Manager regarding administrative and policy matters.  Â

The Project Engineer will perform a variety of work related to the administration and management of projects including planning, designing and overseeing construction of municipal infrastructure facilities.Â
Â
Responsibilities:Â
Â
- Completing assignments with minimal guidance from Senior Engineers. Â
- Maintain a record of communication between client and other parties for each project.  Â
- Coordinating Technicians and Designers to ensure that contract drawings are accurately prepared and checkedÂ
- Coordinating Subconsultants’ activity on projectsÂ
- Preparing and reviewing written technical reports including but not limited to feasibility studies, concept design, detailed design, and design criteria reportsÂ
- Preparing contract documents and construction drawingsÂ
- Performing project coordination tasks including communications with Clients, managing schedules, budgets, and reporting requirementsÂ
- Achieving budget compliance on assigned engineering projects to comply financial objectivesÂ
- Delivering projects on budget and within identified schedulesÂ
- Assisting with writing proposals to procure new projectsÂ
- Communicating effectively and clearly, written and verbalÂ
- Executing projects in accordance with company guidelines and standardsÂ
- Participating in scheduling, budgeting, tendering, and inspectionÂ
- Acting as the primary contact for all project-related Client & Company Site Inspector communicationsÂ
- Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and officesÂ
- Complying and working within COR certified environment and performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislationÂ
- Ensure compliance with current applicable Provincial and Federal legislation, regulations, standards and policies. Â
- Ensure goals are achieved with an emphasis on quality and profit. Â
- Work with Finance Department by completing project status reports to ensure timely and accurate billing. Â
- Ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner for Senior Engineer’s thorough review. Â

Job Requirements:Â
Â
- University degree in Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.Â
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with PEO. Â
- 5+ years of progressive experience in designing infrastructure is essential.Â
- Experience of designing infrastructure projects in Ontario is considered an asset.Â
- Ability to work extended hours and have a flexible work schedule to complete assignments when required.Â
- Ability to prioritize workloads, planning and management skills to adhere to strict timelines.Â
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.Â
- Excellent communication skills.  Writing, verbal communication skills, and technical writing skills are required.Â
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.Â
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Â
- Focus on providing outstanding service to clients.Â
- Proficient in the use of desktop computational tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.Â
- Personal vehicle and valid ‘G’ Class Ontario driver’s license and ability to travel within Ontario.Â

Senior Engineer (20+ Years Experience)
Reports To: Executive Management / President
Location: Ohsweken, Ontario
Employment Status: Full-Time
Position Purpose
The Senior Engineer provides strategic technical leadership, professional oversight, and expert engineering judgment across FNESL’s portfolio of infrastructure and capital projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and mentorship of technical staff.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Oversight
- Provide senior engineering oversight and professional sign-off
- Review and approve designs, drawings, reports, and cost estimates
- Ensure compliance with legislation, codes, and professional obligations
- Act as FNESL’s senior technical authority on complex projects
Project & Client Support
- Provide expert technical advice to leadership and clients
- To act as a Project Engineer and/or Project Manager
- Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
- Attend meetings with First Nations leadership, regulators, and contractors
- Conduct site visits as required
Mentorship & Organizational Support
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and technologists
- Support proposal development and technical review
- Contribute to internal standards and quality assurance processes
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with PEO or eligible for transfer
- 20 years of progressive engineering experience being sought.
- Proven senior-level technical leadership and risk management experience
- Strong knowledge of Ontario codes, standards, and regulations especially as they apply to the water and wastewater industry.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. FNESL is unable to provide immigration sponsorship for this position.
Preferred / Asset
- Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous organizations
- Experience in community infrastructure projects
